Monday Tribute

Mom has gotten quite attached to a cat she sees on her way to town and back. He is a cow cat - white with black markings. He looks just like Big Guy, (in the photo above) one of our ferals that went to the bridge several years ago. This cat sits on the front porch of a little farmhouse and obviously is an outdoor cat. An older gentleman lives there and they seem to have a warm bond. She looks for the cat whenever she goes by and he makes her smile.

In summer the cat follows the man around while he does yard work, sitting quietly next to him. There are chairs on the porch and the man put cushions on the chairs for the cat to sit on year round. In winter the man makes a box with blankets and puts it on the porch for shelter from the weather. This winter he made a very elaborate box, set it up high on a table and fixed a heat lamp to keep the cat warm. Mom drove by while he was building it and the cat was, as usual, sitting next to him on the porch supervising.

The cat has a buddy cat - a long haired black and white cat. They hang out together and sit on the porch waiting for the food dish to be filled. He lives in another house nearby but comes to visit often.

The other day when Mom drove by she noticed the buddy cat there alone. He was sniffing all over the porch chairs and stuff. She wondered where the cow cat was. Yesterday when she drove by, the man had taken down the box, the food dishes and all the cushions off the porch chairs. She was very sad cuz it means something happened to the cow cat.

She would like to send a note to the man even though she doesn't know him but does have an address. Do you think it would be weird if she did? It might make him feel better knowing someone else will miss his cat too. What do you think?

Thanks for listening and for any ideas! May this sweet cat fly free at the Bridge until his bean comes to meet him.

Yes, send a note and tell this man how much it meant to see his Cat. I wouldn't hesitate to do this, I think he would appreciate it. And even if he doesn't care one way or another, it's still passing on universal love and kindness and appreciation. But I think he will care, since he went to great lengths to ensure his Cat was comfortable, even outdoor.

Purrs and kitty kisses and comforting vibes to your mom and this man!

I don't think a note would be weird at all - it might be comforting for him to know that someone else will miss his beloved cow cat as well.

We think a note would be much appreciated by the man, as he seems to have loved his cat very much. Especially if you tell him how much you looked forward to seeing his cow cat each day. xxxxxxxxxx

Oh, that is such a touching story. Yes, I think you should write the man a note. It would make him feel better to know that he isn't alone in feeling this loss, and that someone noticed his kindness.

What a beautiful, but sad story.
Sending a card is the thing to do, we think.

Hi

I am so sorry. That poor cow cat. I don't know what to say except that if it were me and I'd receive a kind note I'd be very comforted to know that someone I didn't know cared enough.

Your mummy is a sweet, sweet mummy to do this.

Take care and big furry hugs
x

Sad, and touching. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. I think it absolutely would be appropriate to offer condolences.

For sure send a little note. I think that would be wonderful. I think anyone would be touched to know other people care about what they are going through.

You are very thoughtful!

Warm thoughts.

A caring note to the elder gentleman would be a nice gesture.

Awww. I read this today and showed it to all the staff at the cat hospital where I work and we all got a little sniffly reading it.

And we think Yes, please send a card and we think if you write in it exactly what you wrote in your blog post, that it would mean so much to the old man...knowing his cat was loved and noticed by someone he didn't even know...we think he would save that card and remember the good times.
