Happy Rubber Ducky Day - Jan. 13

Norm and Snowball want to know "Whatsthis????"

Another Rubber Ducky Day is upon us.  Another day of Mom trying to pose us with these strange yellow things.  As you can see from our photos, we all have different reactions to today!  Browse thru and check us out.

For those who don't know...in 1970, Jim Henson performed the song “Rubber Duckie” as Ernie on Sesame Street, and the rubber duck bath toy has been an iconic American symbol ever since.  Show us your Rubber Ducks and sing along with us.

Rubber Duckie you're the one
You make bath time lots of fun
Rubber Duckie I'm awfully fond of you
Rubber Duckie joy of joys
When I squeeze you, you make noise
Rubber Duckie you're my very best friend it's true
I find a little fellow who's cute and yellow and chubby
Rub a dub dubby
Rubber Duckie you're so fine and I'm lucky that you're mine
Rubber Duckie I'd like a whole pond of you
Rubber Duckie I'm awfully fond of you

Woody wodering what he is supposed to do with the duck!

Tabitha is ignoring the ducky.

Mr Kitty says "Is mine!"

Only just looking cute with his.

Happy Rubber Ducky Day from all of us!!!!

P.S.Update on us....both Mom and Pop were pretty sick before and after Christmas so they didn't even post or show all our holidays cards.  We are so sorry.  The cards were great - we got way more than the humans did.  Mom just got over her flu thing this week.  All us cats are fine.  Sweetpea is going on 6 months since her CRF diagnosis and doing good. She gets daily fluids and is eating well.  She turns 18 this year along with Mr Kitty.  We hope the beans will post once in a while for special days or our Gotcha days.  We do post much more often on Facebook as Cats of Wildcat Woods and on Instagram as @wildcatwoods  so please follow us there.

Happy Rubber Ducky Day - Jan. 13

Mr Kitty hugging his rubber ducks.

It is January 13 - time for our annual Rubber Ducky Day post.

Rubber duckies have been around since the 1800s and the beginnings of  the rubber industry.  And don't  forget the song “Rubber Duckie” performed by  Ernie on Sesame Street in 1970?  This fun colorful bath toy has been an iconic American symbol since.

If you can't see this video then go to Youtube here.

Snowball is trying to ignore his.

How can you have some rubber ducky fun today?

  • If you have some spare bright yellow rubber duckies, leave them around town today in unexpected places - in a puddle in the park, on a shelf in the Children's section of the library, or tie a cheerful note around one wishing the finder a Happy Rubber Ducky Day!
  •  Bake some Rubber Ducky cupcakes - visit icedjems.com for directions on how to make these cute and delish cupcakes.

  • Post photos of your cats with their rubber duckies on social media like us!
  • Take a relaxing fragrant  bubble bath today with your whole collection of rubber duckies in with you.

So is Two Spot

Whatever you do on National Rubber Ducky Day - have fun!  After all it is the middle of winter with the next holiday a whole month away!  Happy Rubber Ducky Day to y'all!!!!

Only just wants to snuggle with his rubber duckies.

P.S. Mr. Kitty is home and did fine with his procedure Tuesday. He was a bit groggy and out of it but should be back to his normal self in the next day or two.  He had no trouble eating tho!  Nom Nom Nom...
Thank you for all your purrs and good vibes for him.

Happy Rubber Ducky Day - Jan 13!

Tabitha examines her rubber duckies.
It is that time of year again - Rubber Ducky Day!  Mom loves to post pictures of us with our Rubber Duckies.

Georgie is more sleepy than interested in hers.
Instead of the usual "Rubber Ducky Song"  sung by Ernie of Sesame Street fame - today we have a cool video of Little Richard singing the song.  Waay cooler, right?

If you can't see the You Tube video then go here.

Callie poses for a Rubber Ducky Day portrait.
Did you know that the rubber ducky was inducted into the  the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2013?  The museum, located in Rochester NY explained - "With their bright color, smooth texture, and (for some) squeaky or quacky sounds, rubber ducks sharpen toddlers’ senses. Their presence in the bathtub soothes youngsters’ fears of water and water immersion and makes good clean fun of the routine hygiene they’re learning."

Two Spot snuggles with his duckies.
Another trivia bit on rubber duckies - On Aug. 8, 1981, Baltimore Mayor William Donald Schaefer — nicknamed “Donald Duck” — jumped into a 79° seal tank at the city’s National Aquarium, clutching a rubber duck and wearing a Victorian bathing suit, in a stunt to draw attention to the institution.

Snowball is debating whether he wants to be near these funny yellow things.

Norm looks perturbed that the duckies have joined him in his bed.
Happy Rubber Ducky Day to y'all!!!!

It's National Rubber Ducky Day - Jan 13

Yoko
It is that time of year again....Rubber Ducky Day!  Yoko says "For some reason these yellow things make me want to take a bath!!"

This day seems to have originated in 1970, when Jim Henson performed the song “Rubber Duckie” as Ernie on Sesame Street.  The rubber duck bath toy has been an iconic American symbol ever since.

Al
Al showed no interest whatsoever in his ducks - he would rather eat than play with them.  That sure is a funny duck on his back.

Woody
Woody didn't want to get too close to the duck...these look more like cats?  Rubber dacks????

Snowball
Snowball warmed right up to his bright yellow friends while Only wanted to nest with his flock of cat/ducks...um dats...or cacks???  What do you call these hybrid cat and ducks??

Only

One of the bigger ones escaped into the water bowl and Smidge cautiously checked it out.  She didn't like that thing floating in her water.  "Get it out Mom!"

Smidge
Do you have any rubber duckies?  We think every day should be rubber ducky day, don't you?

Garden Thursday with Tabitha

What Mom???  You woke me up from my nap to host a garden tour???  I will make it a quick one.

Pop has planted broccoli and kale and they seem to be doing great this winter.  It has been a mild one with just a few cold nights in the 20s.

I think the weather has messed up our flowers - the daffodils are coming out of the ground a couple of months early and the phlox is actually blooming!  We even had some forsythia blooms back in December.

That was it for the garden tour folks.  Back to my nap with Woody. Have a good weekend and don't forget that Sunday Jan 13 is Rubber Ducky Day.  Find a rubber ducky and join in the fun!  Feel free to steal the pic on the sidebar for your post or  blog.

National Rubber Ducky Day - Jan 13

Tabitha here.  Mom is trying to do "Stuff on My Cat" again!

Today is National Rubber Ducky Day! (It is also Friday the 13th but we prefer to celebrate something more fun instead!)

Sweetpea is pretending nothing is there - maybe they will go away!

It all began in 1970 when Jim Henson performed the song “Rubber Duckie” as Ernie on Sesame Street. The rubber duck bath toy has been an iconic American symbol ever since. Rubber ducks have been around since the rise of the rubber industry in the late 1800s, but no one knows their exact origin.

Two Spot thought he could nest with the duckies!

Snowball backed up to keep his distance!

Did you know that in January of 1992, a shipment of 29,000 rubber duckies fell off a cargo ship in the Pacific Ocean? By 2007, the “Friendly Floatees” had traveled 17,000 miles around the world on the ocean currents. Some are still afloat today! Over the years, people reported sightings in Indonesia, Australia, South America, the Bering Straight, the Arctic, and (eventually) the Atlantic Ocean. (Info from Punchbowl.com)

Do you or your beans  have any rubber duckies?  Enjoy Ernie of Sesame Street singing "Rubber Ducky" in the clip below.  Happy Rubber Ducky Day!
