Cookie Monster!

The word for today in Photo Hunt is HALF. Since Minnie has only half of her top front teeth..she is our entry.

I'm Minnie and I have a sweet tooth! You can see it in this picture..I have only one fang left! Mom calls me the cookie monster..

I talk and talk and follow her around until she gives me a treat. After I eat , I must have a cookie!

Yumm, these Temptations are great!

Did I get them all Mom? Are there any more?

Now I will go take a nap..sorry about having my eyes closed...the flashy box makes them squint and becuz I am black nothing comes out if she doesn't use the flashy box.

Happy Mother's Day and Yoko's 17th Gotcha Day!

We are celebrating Yoko for the entire weekend! Sorry about the fuzzy old photo of her...Mom took a picture of an old picture...but isn't she cute?

In 1993, Pop decided to surprise Mom with a puppy on Mother's Day, May 9 so he took her to the shelter the day before to pick out a puppy. No puppies! Not a one. So Pop was talking to the lady cleaning cages and she handed him a tiny tabby kitten barely 6-7 weeks old. He was smitten! That kitten was Yoko...the rest is history.

Yoko, named for her very distinctive voice, still had her kitten blue eyes when we took her home. She was very curious and lively. We kept her in the bedroom since Chica was not used to other cats. Yoko had something wrong with her..she could not keep any food in her - she either had the runs or threw it up. Mom took her to the vet but they couldn't find anything wrong and told Mom to stop changing foods on her. Mom didn't like that so she found a recipe in Anitra Frazier's book the New Natural Cat for cat mother's milk substitute and fed Yoko that. It worked - she kept it down.

Mom took her to another vet and they found a parasite in her tummy that was causing her to be sick. With the right medication, she was all better. I bet Yoko was glad Mom looked up stuff in her books!

Yoko is a very sweet kitty who loves cream cheese, naps and hidy spots way up high. You never knew where you would find her - on the refrigerator, on the closet shelf or on top of the kitchen cabinets! Now she can't quite get up that high. She still likes to nap in the strangest spots!

She has slowed down a lot, has lost most of her teeth and does like to sleep, well, alot! We love her very much and she is still the best Mother's Day gift Mom could have ever gotten!

Yoko will be pampered all weekend with lots of cream cheese, a special salmon dinner and all the loving she could want! In honor of Yoko, Mom will be giving away a copy of the New Natural Cat book to a lucky winner. So... if you don't already have a copy or would like one, be sure to mention that in your comments! (Canadian bloggers are included but sorry, we can't afford to post overseas.)

We have cake and cupcakes for the beans and treats, tuna flakes and nip for the cats. Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Mother's Day to all the great mother's out there - two-legged and four-legged. We are joining in on Photo Hunt (the word today is MOTHER), Weekend Cat Blogging and Camera Critters and Pet Pride too so be sure to go by and see more fun posts!

Wendy was sweet enough to feature Yoko on her Mother's Day post for the Lol Spot - check it out and thanks Wendy!

Photo Hunt - Black

We joined in on the Photo Hunt today and this one was sooo easy...the word is black!

We have 5 black cats living in our house..... This is Ivy when she still lived outside. It is hard to take photos of black cat indoors since they don't show up well unless you use a flash and then you get red eyes or eyes closed cuz of the flash!

This is tiny Sweetpea, our long haired petite cat. She is 10 this year.

Lovely Minnie has deep green eyes and fur like velvet but it is so hard to capture them in photos.

Mamacita is a younger kitty rescued with two kittens from our yard. Both kittens had severe respiratory illness when we brought them in.

Our senior Chica is a black tortoiseshell and very much the boss cat in the house.

Rosa is Mamacita's baby girl cat. We lost her brother Manny to urinary blockage when he was only 2.

If you want to play Photo Hunt too visit Tnchick for the details. We also joined in on Camera Critters and Pet Pride today too. Happy Caturady!

Happy May Day too! Mom did a post on her other blog about this old fashioned holiday and the flowers in our yard! Go see.

A Working Caturday with Al!

It's a fairly warm sunny day and we are all enjoying the rays!

Mom and Pop will be finishing up winterizing our screen cat room over the weekend. Pop hurt his knee this week so Mom will be doing the ladder and stapling the plastic over the screen. They did something new this year - adding panels that can be raised on warm days to let air in. That was a nice idea! Plus we have glass windows that we can see out and watch the birds and goats!

Wow look what they found on the outside screen! Have you ever seen such a big hairy spider? Wonder what kind it is? Anyone know?

Happy Caturday and please stop by Camera Critters for more great animal posts! ALso visit Bozo at Pet Pride for more pet posts.

Mancat Monday - Woody

Uh oh Mom's got the flashy box thing out again! I don't like lots of attention drawn to me.

Mom, how many times are you gonna make that go flash?

Even being the mancat for Mancat Monday is not worth it for me to put up with this. I'm going under the chair where I am safe! By ya'll!

Happy World Cat Day!

Today we are celebrating cats. I never had cats as a child, only dogs because my mother was allergic to cats. My first cat Chica, who is still with me, came into my life almost 20 years ago. She started me on my path of caring for and rescuing feral cats and I have learned so much about myself and cats since then. My love for all animals is my passion in life.

To Be of Service
Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission - to be of service to them wherever they require it.
--- Saint Francis of Assisi

I am a humble servant to these loving creatures - both past and present....

Sweet loving Gerogie - littermate of Norm, Sam and Woody.

My first and dearest - Chica - a very spoiled ladycat.

Dear Clarence only lived with us for 18 months. He had cancer and finally died Oct. 2004 of heart failure. He was such a charming yet reserved cat. He won our hearts in such a short time.

Darby was found living under our house one winter - she is my snuggle bunny cat!

Sweetpea is a tiny long haired black cat who loves to sit on your lap and give kisses (French ones)! Yoko, a brown tabby, loves to sleep in piles of laundry, or high up on the closet shelf.

Lily is the feral mom to many of my white cats - she avoided the trap each time and had two litters before we could catch her and the kittens.

Norm, Snowball and Sam - Lily's first litter still love to be with each other.

Joey and Minnie are littermates and can always be found snuggling together. We lost littermate Leroy at six months old while they were still outside - he disappeared and we never found any sign of him. Another brother Nick lost his battle with cancer in Jan 2006.

Mamcita and her daughter Rosa are very shy and don't like a lot of attention. Manny was the other kitten of her litter but we lost him in Jan 2007 of a serious bladder complication.

Going from front to back - Two Spot, Smidge on the floor, Only and Tabitha are from Lily's second litter.

Woody - brother of Norm,Sam and Georgie. He is my very shy boy.

Ivy was the head female of the feral group I inherited when my husband and I bought our farmhouse. She, along with Momcat who passed in 2003, ran the group and kept things going. She is still the boss and running things now that she is an indoor cat.

Big Guy was the head male of our feral group and ran a tight ship! He kept the peace and ran off other tomcats that tried to take over. He passed in my arms Oct. 2004 and the group pretty much broke apart. I took the remaining ones inside since another male cat was chasing the old group off.

Al who is deaf, came into my life after I had lost Clarence and Big Guy within two weeks of each other. He helped me keep going with his silly antics and personality!

Today is catnip and treat day for all these lucky cats. Please remember to help out other animals who don't have caring homes!

Kitten Memories of Al on Caturday

Mom was looking through some old photos and found these of Albert. Al (our soon to be five, blue-eyed deaf cat)has always been very funny about the spots he likes to nap in and finds the most quirky eclectic places to hang out. We had a shop and soup take out restaurant with a full commercial kitchen when he was a kitten. When we were closed he was allowed into the kitchen and we never knew where we would find him - usually sound asleep!
