Feral Flash Back Friday with Sweetpea

This is kinda a before and after post with me Sweetpea hosting.  Mom trapped  me as a feral kitten living with a colony of cats in the woods behind her house and brought me to live indoors.  She was scared I would not live through the winter that year,  especially after the whole group disappeared for days after a cold and snowy day.    We must have found a warmer place to go 'cuz we all showed up again in a few days but Mom was sooo very worried about us especially me "cuz I was so tiny.

I lived in the  bathroom for a few weeks until I got used to being handled and petted.  The vet had to sedate me to examine me and told Mom to bathe me quick while I was still out like a light.  I guess I was dirty, full of mats and had a skin condition.   I was fierce even though I was small.  Bit by bit I got better behaved and was allowed out to meet Angel Chica and Angel Yoko who were a bit older than me.

This is me now 15 years later - not much bigger than then but all growed up!  I love my peeps and will sit in their lap whenever I can.  I love Pop and want to sit on him whenever he watches TV.  So you see feral cats can be tamed - even older ones.  next week we will tell you about some other ferals in our house.  Have a super weekend!

Thankful Mancat Monday

Snowball with Only behind him

Mom didn't get to post this last night as we had BAD storms and even a tornado watch - very scary!  The storms lasted until 2 in the morning and ended with one huge clap of thunder that sent us all into hiding.  It sounded like something got hit right over us but this morning nothing looked amiss.  So us mancats are very thankful nothing was damaged in our area last night.  Wishing you all a happy week!

Mellow Monday and Turkey TV

One of Only's out takes from his 4th photo session - he just yawned but looks like he is sneering.

We are back.  Hope everyone had a fun Fourth of July  (for those in the states)  Pop did well in his surgery and is recovering nicely.  He has his staples out this week and hopefully will be able to get back to normal.  The doctors say they got all the cancer.  Thank you for all your wonderful purrs, prayers and get well wishes for Pop!

Only gave up on posing to clean his belleh!

Ivy is over her conjunctivitis - she had a ulcer in her eye from it.  Mom did good giving her antibiotics and eye cream herself!  Only is over his second UTI in a few months and is on a daily dose of d-mannose to keep it from happening again.

We have had an unexpected visitor to our yard the past few weeks - a young turkey, all by his or her lonesome.  Imagine - turkey TV!  She or he comes to eat around the bird feeder in late afternoon.  Pretty cool.

Of course Mom videoed her/him.  Check it out.  If you can't view this here then go to our Youtube Channel.

Happy Birthday Angel Chica!

Chica on her 20th Birthday

It would have been Angel Chica's 23rd birthday today.  She lived to be 3 months shy of her 22nd birthday in 2013.  Having had her with us so long, we have so many sweet and funny memories of her.

Chica at five months

She lived life on her terms.  She chose me when I first saw her in Florida, outside a strip mall as a young kitty.  She was thumping her paws at a shop window trying to get inside.  Once home with us, she laid the rules down quickly!

She loved to rip up toilet paper rolls - it was six months after she passed before we realized we still hadn't put the TP back on the roll!

Chica was fearless, nothing fazed her.  She was not even afraid of the vacuum cleaner!

Chica's first Christmas

Unwrapping gifts was fun for her.

She enjoyed life indoors but got outside a few times in her younger years.  A neighbor came to the door and as I held it open for her to come  in, Chica bolted out between our legs.  It was getting dark so I ran right after her even tho I was barefoot.  I felt like if I let her out of my sight, she was gone.  She was in different territory so stopped to check every new thing out.  I caught up with her in a neighbor's backyard and scooped her up.  She went right over my shoulder and was free again!  This time I scruffed her when I caught her and made it back inside, my heart and hers pounding in the excitement. That wasn't the last time she tried to escape!

When we moved to North Carolina, she again made our house her home, scoping it all out and snoopervising the furniture placement.

She was so unique in so many ways as torties are.  And she was my first cat.  That fact alone will keep her close to my heart, always.  Wishing my special girl a wonderful Birthday at the Bridge.

P.S. After this post, I will take a 2 week blogcation.  My husband, the kittie's Pop  will have surgery on Wed this week.  We can use all the extra positive vibes for him to do well and recover quickly.  Thanks from all of us. Feel free to email as I will be checking them.
